“Pop’s Car”
This car has an amazing story. Bought brand new by my wife’s father in 1989, then traded in back in 2004. On a whim, we set out to find the car, just to see if we could. We found it. After many months of searching, messaging total strangers, contacting Mustang related groups in the area where it was last registered, running the carfax; we found it. We picked the car up in June of 2020, and surprised her father on fathers day with the car.
After the reveal, the long road to restoring the car began. We wanted the car to look just as it did when it rolled off the line in 1989. Literally everything on the car needed to be replaced, it had lived a hard life in its thirty-one years. From replacing the entire dash (and most of the rest of the interior), to the transmission, and most everything under the hood; this is no easy resto.
Most recently the car went to Hunt’s Body Shop in Michigan for a full repaint, and returned home for the second reveal at Ford Takeover 2021. Many more projects remain for Pop’s car including a fresh engine, finishing the interior restoration, replacing the work suspension, and so on. Nope, they are never done.
